September 12, 2024

I had the opportunity to attend SaaStr with Paul this year. We attended insightful sessions and met incredible folks.

Three days.
13,000 attendees.
One thing became clear: SaaS is just getting started.

If you thought SaaS had peaked, SaaStr 2024 was a wake-up call. Here’s what went down.

SaaStr Annual 2024 featured over 100 sessions, key product innovations, and extensive networking opportunities. With over 150 sponsors and numerous 1:1 VC meetings, it proved to be an essential event for SaaS professionals aiming to scale their businesses.

Key Highlights:

  • SaaStr Annual 2024 featured over 100 tactical sessions led by over 250 industry experts.
  • The event attracted over 13,000 participants, including founders, executives, and VCs.
  • Networking was a major focus of the conference, which included over 2,000 scheduled networking meetings and 1:1 sessions with more than 1,000 venture capitalists.
  • Over 150 sponsors showcased their latest innovations in cloud and SaaS technology.

SaaStr Annual 2024 was held from September 10 to 12 in the San Francisco Bay Area. After three days of sessions, networking, and groundbreaking innovations, it’s clear that this year’s event was more than just a gathering of SaaS professionals—it was a deep dive into the industry’s future. The event has lived up to its reputation as the largest and most impactful SaaS gathering.

Gartner raised the estimate for the amount of SaaS spend this year. The chart estimates that spending will grow 20% to $675B. If we’re adding 20%, where is the money going? To some extent, it’s not clear. “Maybe endless price increases,” Jason Lemkin said, SaaStr CEO and Founder.

SaaStr Annual 2024: A Hub for SaaS Innovation and Connection

This year’s theme, “Just Build,” truly set the tone for the event. The focus was on how SaaS companies are not just keeping up with technology but actively shaping their future.

Keynote speakers delivered insightful sessions on how emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, are transforming the SaaS landscape.

The enthusiasm for innovation was palpable, and it’s exciting to see how companies are leveraging these technologies to create more efficient and scalable solutions.

What I Experienced: Sessions and Insights

Topics ranged from growth strategies and customer acquisition to product development and operational efficiency. Each session was meticulously curated to ensure that attendees left with practical, actionable advice rather than promotional pitches.

There were no commercials, no paid content, and no boring panels—just high-quality, hand-screened content designed to help you grow your business from $0 to $100M ARR with less stress and more success.

This was SaaStr’s commitment to offering a genuinely valuable experience, free from fluff and focused on real-world applications.

Networking: A Key Component

Networking was at the forefront of SaaStr Annual 2024. With more than 2,000 meetings scheduled, the event provided numerous opportunities for attendees to connect with peers, industry leaders, and potential investors. The networking format was diverse, including:

  • Networking Meetings: A chance to forge new partnerships and discuss industry trends.
  • AMAs (Ask Me Anything): Interactive sessions where experts addressed attendees’ questions.
  • Mentoring Sessions: Both one-on-one and group mentoring sessions offered valuable guidance from seasoned professionals.
  • Roundtables: Focused discussions on specific SaaS challenges and solutions.

Additionally, the opportunity for 1:1 meetings with over 1,000 VCs was a significant highlight. For startups and growth-stage companies, this was a golden opportunity to seek investment and strategic advice.

Jason Lemkin notes that in 2024, VCs are hunting for decacorns instead of unicorns. Where Zendesk once IPO’d at $800 million, now $8 billion is the target for exits. Series A rounds that used to be $3 million are now $30 million or more.

This focus on $10 billion exits puts immense pressure on startups, especially in AI, where such high stakes could lead to significant losses. “No one’s a fool in venture capital, but they are making big bets,” said Jason.

Spotlight on Innovation

With over 150 sponsors in attendance, SaaStr Annual 2024 was a showcase of the latest innovations in cloud technology and SaaS solutions. These sponsors were not just present to promote their products; they were there to demonstrate how their contributions are shaping the future of the SaaS industry.

For attendees, this was a chance to get a firsthand look at emerging technologies and trends that are set to transform the SaaS landscape.

Workshops and Panels: Hands-On Learning and Discussion

Beyond the main sessions, the event featured a variety of workshops and panel discussions.

These sessions offered hands-on learning opportunities and covered practical topics such as leveraging data for growth, optimizing customer journeys, and integrating new technologies into existing systems.

The diversity in content ensured that there was something for everyone, regardless of their role or experience level.

Community Spirit

What truly sets SaaStr Annual apart is its emphasis on community and collaboration.

SaaStr is all about its community, providing endless opportunities to share and learn with peers from every role, function, industry, company size, and beyond.

It was clear that SaaStr Annual continues to be a cornerstone for engagement and collaboration within the SaaS ecosystem. If you’re a B2B founder, executive, revenue leader, or investor, this event is a must-attend.
