If you’re desperate to land a job, any job, not just a software one, this hack works.

It’s not magic. It takes a little more effort than blasting résumés into job portals. Most people don’t have the patience to sit down and do this consistently. They give up because it feels hard, repetitive, and unglamorous.

And that’s precisely why it works. If you stick with it, you’ll beat your competition, and you’ll land interviews faster than the average applicant who relies on luck and job boards.

Step 1: Use LinkedIn in a Smarter Way

Job portals typically receive hundreds of applications for every role. It is very hard to stand out there. Instead, we will look for fresh posts from hiring managers and recruiters.

How to search:

  1. Go to the LinkedIn search bar.

Type:

Software Engineer Hiring (or any desired role)

  1. Change the filter to Posts.
  2. Change filter to Latest.
  3. Change the date filter to Past 24 hours.
  4. Change the filter to Job Posts.

This will show you posts made by people who are actively hiring right now, in this case, as soon as within the next hour.

Step 2: Reach Out Directly

Once you find a role:

  1. Go to the hiring manager’s profile.
  2. Click Connect.
  3. Add a short note.

Example for an experienced developer

Hi [Name], I am a full-stack developer from India with 3 years of experience at a tech startup. I saw you are hiring for [Role]. I would love to have a quick chat.

Example for a freelancer

Hi [Name], I am a freelance developer based in India, and I have worked on multiple client projects utilizing [your tech stack]. I saw you are hiring for [Role]. I would love to have a quick chat to see if my skills can help your team.

Example for a fresher

Hi [Name], I am a recent graduate in computer science from [Your University]. I have built projects in [your tech stack] and I am eager to learn on the job. I saw you are hiring for [Role]. I would love to have a quick chat.

💡 Tip: Use the word quick. People are more likely to respond when they know it won’t take much time.

👉 Try to send at least 10 connection requests every day.

Step 3: Be the First to Apply

Even on LinkedIn Jobs, timing matters.

  1. Click on a job posting.
  2. Look at the link in your browser.

You’ll see something like this:

f_TPR=r86400

  1.  This number means 86,400 seconds (1 day).
  2. Change the number to a smaller one, such as 6400.

This shows jobs posted only a few hours ago, sometimes even minutes ago. Apply to these quickly so you’re one of the first candidates.

Step 4: Email the Company Directly

  1. Visit the company’s website.
  2. Check the Careers or About Us page.
  3. Look for emails like:
    • careers@[company].com
    • jobs@[company].com
    • hr@[company].com
    • Or even the hiring manager’s email on the Team page.
  4. Send a short email with your resume attached.

Example Email
Subject: Application for [Role] – [Your Name]

Hi [Name],
I came across the [Role] opening at [Company], and I am very interested in it. Please find my resume attached.
I would be happy to have a quick call to discuss how my skills can be helpful for your team.
Best regards,
[Your Name]

Step 5: Ask for a Referral

Referrals can double your chances. Here’s why: most companies have a referral bonus program. If an employee refers you and you get hired, they often receive extra compensation. That means they’re motivated to help promising candidates.

How to do it:

  1. Go to the company’s LinkedIn page.
  2. Click on People to see employees.
  3. Look for people in the same team as the role.
  4. Send a polite message.

Example:

Hi [Name], I came across the [Role] opening at [Company]. I am applying for it, and I admire the work your team is doing. I would be grateful if you could refer me. Thank you for your time.

Step 6: Combine Everything

  • Search daily for fresh posts from hiring managers.
  • Send at least 10 personalized connection requests every day.
  • Use the LinkedIn URL trick to be among the first applicants.
  • Email companies directly with your resume.
  • Ask employees for referrals.

This approach takes discipline, but if you do it every day, you’ll land interviews much faster than people who just click “Apply” on job boards.

Daily Checklist

✅ Search “software engineer AND hiring” on LinkedIn, filter by past 24 hours
✅ Send 10 personalized connection requests
✅ Use the LinkedIn URL trick and apply it to at least one new job
✅ Email one company directly with your resume
✅ Ask one employee for a referral

Do this daily, and you’ll start seeing interviews come in.
